Pleasure Is Given, Meaning Is Chosen
Pleasure is easy because it's guaranteed.
It's always there, and it asks nothing of you.
Meaning is not.
It's a long road, and you may never arrive.
So when meaning feels far, we reach for what's near.
The scroll. The drink. The next small reward.
Pleasure is a destination you're handed.
Meaning is a road you choose — with no promise you'll arrive.
Pleasure is happy to stand in for a life.
But it can't carry the weight we hand it.
It solves boredom, not emptiness.
It can fill an evening. It cannot fill a life.
Pleasure is given. Meaning is chosen.
One arrives on its own.
The other only comes if you go looking — and keep going when it doesn't answer.
You rarely get certainty. You choose the road anyway.
Not because it promises to pay off,
but because the choosing is already the meaning.
Pleasure will still be there when you get back.
Go build something it can't replace.
